Energy & Petrochemical Infrastructure Protection

 SSI's consultants are nationally recognized experts in managing risks to energy facilities including pipeline infrastructure, LNG terminals, maritime facilities, and power plants. As advisors to numerous clients in this sector, SSI supports clients' risk management objectives in developing and implementing security programs, establishing policies and procedures, conducting security vulnerability assessments and audits, and conducting security-focused exercises and drills. 

• Pipeline Security:  SSI's depth and breadth of expertise inn security pipeline infrastructure is unsurpassed.   Whether in support of commercial pipeline operators or TSA's pipeline security program, SSI's consultants have conducted hundreds of on-site security assessments, inspections, and audits of the nation's critical pipeline, storage and midstream infrastructure.  SSI's commercial clients operate several of the nation's largest and most critical pipeline systems that transport and store refined products, crude oil and natural gas.  Specific areas of expertise include conducting security vulnerability assessments (SVA), developing and managing security plans, and conducting security-focused training, drills, and exercises.

 SSI's clients encounter growing challenges in complying with state and federal security regulations and guidelines.  Faced with resource and time constraints, clients rely heavily on SSI for assistance in understanding the implications of regulations to resources, operations, and facilities.  SSI then works closely to ensure that they comply with regulations in a timely and thorough manner. 

• Maritime Security:   SSI has been conducting Waterway Suitability Assessments (WSAs) in accordance with U.S. Coast Guard requirements from 2005 through the present. SSI's expertise also includes all aspects of the Maritime Transportation Security Act (MTSA).  Specifically, our consultants actively support clients by conducting Facility Security Assessments (FSA), developing and managing Facility Security Plans (FSP), and training clients' personnel who have security responsibilities. 

• Chemical Security:  From 2007 to 2010, SSI served as a prime contractor for DHS and a review center for security assessments that operators of chemical facilities conducted in order to comply with the Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Standards (CFATS).  In this role, SSI reviewed and made recommendations on over 1,600 security assessments submitted to DHS by these operators.  At the conclusion of the contract, SSI transferred our expertise in CFATS compliance to our commercial clients. 

• HazMat Transportation:  SSI's clients face growing risks from the transportation of hazardous materials via truck and rail. SSI supports these clients in assessment and managing such risks, and in complying with DOT's HM-232 security regulations for the transportation of hazardous materials.
